That I could write like any other man
Words to brighten a day
But I don’t seem to be able to understand
What makes you weep and smile.
If I could write like any other man,
I’d steal your breath away
And render numb your lips with kisses and cliches
And drag you after me, mile over mile.
But if I could write like any other man
Words and domains over which to hold sway
I’d be nothing but a cheap copy
A mess, a trap, upon a desk, a smoldered open file
Because I cannot write like any other man.
Sometimes, deep in the twilight, I can’t even write like me.
