No One Gets Out Alive is a Netflix movie based upon the novel by Adam Nevill of the same title. The movie came out in 2021 on the streaming platform. I was a bit disappointed. Shouldn't have read the book first, I guess.
The movie was good, don't get me wrong. It simply paled in comparison to the book. The book was long, thoughtful, and tense. The movie disappointed me because the characters felt flat, and it was all very fast-paced. The tension in the apartment did not have time to build, I felt. So, I suppose I would have liked it better had I not read the book.
I enjoy the thematic connection made between The Ritual, The Reddening, and No One Gets Out Alive. The cinematic representations of these capitol "E" Evils were impressive, and visually similar (in the case of the cinematic versions). That might be my favorite thing about Adam Nevill's work: the Elder Gods, older than the religions of our planet, demanding tribute in the dark places of the world.
In closing, this was a good movie, particularly if you are not inclined to read the book. If you might be inclined to read the book, you can find my review of it here. Available on Netflix.
