Movie Review: Cujo

The 1983 film Cujo was exactly like the book, which is marvelous. I think that the only movie adaptation I've seen that I could note for its accuracy in regard to the source material is the Mel Gibson version of Hamlet. There was one glaring change, but I cannot tell you what it was or what it was in the book. It's the whole thing, you see.

The acting was solid, and most of the characters were exactly as I saw them in my mind when reading it. I thought Vic was too handsome, and that Roger was too thin, I suppose. And George was too young. I saw an old man, wasted by decades of drinking with that lean, old man muscle that could throw about haybales but not withstand a stiff wind. You know the type. Beyond that, the casting was very well done.

Cujo's acting was superb as well. The dog that played him was very well trained, and put up with all of the makeup and screaming very well. Although, I theorize that a heavy amount of camera magic made it so that most of Cujo's scenes were shot with only him in them, which seems necessary to protect the actor that played Tad from having a complex.

If you've read the book, then you know, but the dog perishes. If sensitive to that, don't watch it. I wasn't sure where to stream it, so I bought the dvd on Amazon. I'll leave a link to it below.
