This last weekend, I had the very special privilege to experience the early access of the open beta of Diablo IV, set to come out June 6th of this year. In the video gaming world, I haven't had much to look forward to in a while, with the astoundingly disappointing fiasco that was Diablo Immortal.
I have spent the better part of the last 10 years playing Diablo 3 on Xbox consoles. I was stoked when Diablo IV was announced, and then intrigued but wary when Diablo Immortal was announced. Well, Diablo IV was ok. I didn't like that I had to see other players in my world all the time and compete with them for kills. I didn't like the microtransactions because access to money made the game easier. I didn't like using my phone screen as a controller because it blocked out half my screen.
Diablo IV was beautiful. The beta was really laggy, which sucks, but the graphics were higher end than I'm used to seeing, and I'm rural so I have shitty internet. I was disappointed to see people in my game, killing my monsters, but hopefully the full release will allow me to play alone, as is my custom.
The graphics were sick, the gameplay was pretty savage. I played a sorcerer, and really liked the skills I played with. I went mostly lightning, but found some items that gave me ranks in some fire skills that did a lot of damage. I like the size of the map, and the dungeons. I liked the depth of the combat, also. I did not get very many Legendaries, and they were not as cool as I was anticipating, but I saw on a loading screen that there are going to be items called Uniques that have great abilities, so maybe the items that I was looking for under the Legendary category (what they would have been in Diablo 3) are now going to be found in the Unique category.
So, I'm still stoked for Diablo IV to come out, but I have some concerns regarding the connections I made with Diablo Immortal, which was ok at best, and a goddamn travesty at worst.
