Hey there, coffee folks. We've got another one by Adam Nevill, because I may be obsessed. This time we've got No One Gets Out Alive, which has been adapted for a Netflix Movie. I'm about to go watch that, but I wanted to record my thoughts about the book first.

Stephanie is a broke woman with no one. The only family remaining to her was her stepmother, her father's widow. Single, and estranged from her friends, She takes a cheap room to help get her back on her feet. The room is a terrible, haunted mess presided over by an unstable man, "Knacker," and his cousin Fergal. These guys suck. Truly terrible people, although not for their own sake. Cryptic, sorry. Anywho, the supernatural occurrences within the building grow with time, and the introduction of new tenants changes everything about the place, ringing in a new wave of crime, tension, and violence through the building.

Of the Nevill works I've read, I would put this one in the middle, for me, as far as quality and stylistic engagement. The Reddening I would place at the bottom, and The Ritual at the top. The Ritual was truly amazing. The description of the wilds of the forest, the fear, and the plot in general were simply exquisite. I was leery about the band, but I quickly grew to accept them as adversaries. The Reddening had a great plot, but I did not often find myself frightened. Also, I would say that the setting did not drag me in like The Ritual, and the extensive descriptions therein took away from the story, to me. I thought that No One Gets Out Alive was right in the middle. The place, the horror, and the action were great, but I didn't feel like it was the page-turner that The Ritual was. However, I do believe that The Reddening had my favorite ending of the three.

I read this book in between 7-12 hours. I liked it. I think I really enjoy Adam Nevill. Clever, great pacing and description, although I sometimes find that distracting, and endings that are perfect: No one makes it out unscarred.
